Why can’t I open HEIC files on Windows?

HEIC needs a codec most Windows and web apps don’t include. Converting to JPG makes them open everywhere.

Will quality drop?

JPG is lossy, but at 90% quality the difference is hard to see. Choose PNG for a lossless copy, though files will be larger.
