Dummy Files for Upload and Limit Testing
Testing a 5 MB upload limit needs files at exactly 5 MB, one byte under and one byte over. Pick a type and size, and the file is built in your browser with its size accurate to the byte. Valid formats stay valid, with padding hidden in comments or metadata.
What you can do
- Exact sizes from 0 bytes to 256 MB in bytes, KB, MB or GB.
- Valid PDF, PNG, JPG, ZIP, WAV, CSV and JSON files, plus text and raw binary.
- Boundary test: limit −1 byte, exactly the limit, and limit +1 byte in one click.
- Random or zero-filled content, and an editable file name to test extension checks.
Good to know
- Choose whether 1 KB means 1024 or 1000 bytes. Many limits use 1024, and cloud storage often uses 1000.
- Rename a raw file to .docx or .mp4 to check how your app handles files whose contents don’t match their extension.
- Files are created in memory in your browser. Very large sizes need free RAM.
- Nothing is uploaded or stored.
