Password-Protect a PDF
Set a password and the PDF can’t be opened without it. The file is encrypted with AES-256 in your browser, so neither the document nor the password ever leaves your device.
What you can do
- AES-256 encryption with a password of your choice and a strength meter.
- Choose whether people can print, copy text, add comments or edit pages.
- An optional separate owner password to change the limits later.
- Works on large PDFs and keeps the pages exactly as they were.
Good to know
- Use a long, unique password. If you lose it, it cannot be recovered.
- Permission limits are advisory and honoured by most PDF apps; the open password is the real protection.
- If a PDF is already protected, unlock it first and then protect it again with a new password.
