About Nepali New Year
The Nepali New Year falls on the first of Baisakh, in mid-April, and starts a new year in the Bikram Sambat calendar, which is about 56 years and 8 months ahead of the English calendar. It is a public holiday. People visit family and temples, exchange greetings, and communities hold fairs and processions, such as Bisket Jatra in Bhaktapur and the Sindoor Jatra in Thimi.
