Tihar Countdown: How Many Days Are Left?
This page counts down the days, hours, minutes and seconds until Tihar (तिहार). The date is shown in both the English calendar and the Bikram Sambat (BS) calendar, with a day-by-day schedule, and you can add it to your calendar or share it with friends and family.
About Tihar
Tihar, also called Deepawali or Yamapanchak, is the festival of lights. Over five days people honour crows (Kaag Tihar), dogs (Kukur Tihar), cows and the goddess Laxmi (Gai Tihar and Laxmi Puja), oxen or the self (Govardhan and Mha Puja), and finally brothers and sisters on Bhai Tika.
Homes are cleaned and lit with oil lamps and coloured lights, doorways get rangoli, and groups go from house to house singing Deusi and Bhailo. On Bhai Tika sisters put a seven-coloured tika on their brothers' foreheads and pray for their long lives.
How the countdown works
The counter runs to midnight at the start of the festival day in Nepal (UTC+5:45), so it is correct wherever you are in the world. Tihar depends on the lunar calendar, so its English date changes each year and is confirmed shortly before the festival. When the festival has passed, the page tells you when the next date is available.
